What happens if I buy a macbook then they release the new model?

I went into my local Apple store and they asked me when I needed my computer by as they are having a event on the 7th. Now I need to buy my computer before then (I also want the free beats since I am a student). However what happens if they release a new macbook right after I purchase mine? I believe the person in store said if you buy it within 60 days of a new release they will upgrade your model to the newest one. Is this true? Also if it is how does it work with online purchasing, is it 60 days since you ordered online or 60 days since you've actually received your macbook? (I'm assuming since ordering)

What happens if you buy a car, or a television set, or other technology and then a few days later a new model comes out?

You still purchased what you paid for. There may be exchange privileges, or you may be able to sell your purchased item privately and then buy the new one. Or you may be very happy with your purchase and keep and enjoy it.

In the case of the MacBook, if you purchase a new computer running El Capitan, you will certainly be able to upgrade it to MacOS Sierra once that is released later in the autumn.

So you can wait and explore the unknown, with unknown features and an unknown release date, or you can purchase a known quantity sooner.

I understand that, I was just wondering if that was an offer they had or if the sales guy was just trying to get us to buy the computer. Thanks though.

In the past I have seen reports that they allowed recent purchasers to exchange after a new product release but I don't remember the number of days involved and I haven't seen any policy announcement of that so I definitely wouldn't advise you to rely on it. The normal return/exchange policy is 14 days and 14 days is also the policy for price reductions: http://www.apple.com/shop/help/returns_refund

Apple has announced an event that will occur on Sept. 7. There is plenty of speculation that a new model iPhone will be announced then. So let's consider a person with a current iPhone (say iPhone 6S) that might consider trading for a new model. Apple's website:

... which offers pricing information for those wishing to renew or recycle their older iPhones, does not even offer pricing for the iPhone 6S, as it is the current model!!

In other words, Apple has not in the past formally presented options or offers for products they have not yet announced.

Regardless of any upcoming announcements, buying a Mac does come with some warranty privileges. I have no idea if these include, for example, 14-day refund or exchange privileges. Your salesperson should be able to clarify that for you.
